Geekcorps Mali needed a website to announce project news and to post articles on products created (e.g., DIY wireless antennas) and technologies evaluated (e.g., VSAT). I also needed to test the open-source content management system (CMS) that another volunteer and I had selected as best-suited to manage our projects websites.
So I did the obvious: I created a website for Geekcorps Mali that could be managed using the selected CMS (PHP/MySQL-based SPIP). First I designed a simple, professional look-and-feel. Then I coded SPIP templates based on my design, using HTML, CSS, and SPIP tags.
At this writing we are regularly updating the site, in both French and English, using SPIP. I am one of the site administrators; I write articles, and edit and approve articles by other authors. I make occasional minor changes to the templates, when I see a way to improve site usability.
